VOLUNTEER

How to begin

All voluntary work is done from home as the vast majority of our day-to-day communication is done via the internet. Simply email Nadine to get involved, at nadine@notitlemagazine.com with a subject heading ‘Volunteering’

Editing and proof Reading

Proof Reading
Be the first to read through our reviews and articles, ensuring that there are no spelling, grammar or punctuation mistakes before they go to print.

Editing
Liaise with our team of writers and use your own judgement to decide how articles can be improved. This is ideal experience for anyone who wants to work in magazine publishing.

Photography

We hope to provide a sound basis for building your portfolio of published work. You can contribute as little or as much as you like; every issue or every now and again – you tell us.  You will need to be reliable and have your own SLR camera.  On joining the No-TiTLE Team, you will be added to our mailing list of photographers and every month you will be emailed a list of photography assignments, from photographing live music events to conducting photo shoots with bands.  You can pick and choose what you would like to do from the list, which is given to photographers on a first come first serve basis.  All photography work is credited on the page of your printed photograph and in our list of contributers on the inside page.

Fundraising and Events Mangaement

No-TiTLE Live Benefit gigs are the lifeblood of No-TiTLE Magazine, with each live gig not only helping to raise the money to cover the magazines operation costs, but also helping to expose undiscovered talent.  No-TiTLE Magazine is a genre-diverse publication and so is our roster of live music events.

If you would like some experience of events organising, perhaps so you can start up your own music events, volunteering for No-TiTLE Live would be ideal for you.  You can put in as little or as much work as you like, depending on what you want to do.  Below are is a list of areas we need help in:

  • Sourcing and booking live acts
  • Band liaison
  • Online gig promotion
  • Stage Management
  • Gig promotion and publicity

Writing

There are a range of different writing assignments you can do; all you need is decent grasp of journalistic-style writing and a passion for music.  You do not necessarily need prior experience. We try also to match our writing assignments to writers based upon their musical interests and preferences- there’s no point asking an Indie kid to review a techno mix cd! Below are some examples of the type of writing you can do for us:

Demo Reviews
Receive a couple of demos of unsigned Leeds music through the post and write 200-300 words about each demo, and then email your demo reviews in before the sent submission deadline. Keep the demos!

Live Reviews
Specify your area of musical expertise and get sent to review gigs and events accordingly.  300 words maximum.  You must be over 18 to become a live reviewer.

Rants
Is something irritating you beyond belief? Unleash the tension into a 400 word rant and tell the whole world about it.

Features: The article
Interview a band to gather information to write a full article. Half page features are 400 words max and full page features are up to 1000 words.

Design and Illustration

We have matched up our design volunteers with promoters who require paid design work in the past, and we shall always credit your work where-ever we can.  We are also happy to act as referees for any design-related employment you are seeking.

Design work for us can include artwork for gig flyers or posters, illustrations to match articles in the magazine or even the magazine’s front cover.

You can volunteer for No-TiTLE Magazine as little or as much as you like.  You do not have to commit to a certain amount of hours, just let us know a month in advance when you want to contribute, and we will match you up with an assignment for the following month’s issue.  You will receive a short ‘design brief’ with a few specifications and a submission deadline, but of course the creative interpretation of the subject is mostly up to you!
